The World Health Organization (WHO) on August 30th, 2021, named the variant B.1.621 - Mu, a variant of interest. A variant of interest (VOI) is one that has genetic differences to the other known variants and is causing infections in multiple countries, and therefore might present a particular threat to public health.

The Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment wishes to advise the general public that as part of the its mosquito control programme for the adult Aedes aegypti mosquito, the Insect Vector Control Unit will be conducting fogging operations in the following areas commencing at 5:00 p.m. daily on the island of Saint Vincent.

The Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment, by way of being copied on a letter to the Governor General on August 23,2021, was notified by the Public Service Union that their members had taken the “decision to withdraw the labour of all essential workers of the Crown for the period September 7th - 10th, 2021”.

The Ministry of National Mobilisation in collaboration with UNICEF has commenced a training of trainers family life education life skills programme for facilitators to train 500 families requiring income support from the Family Support Grant of the Public Assistance Programme and 500 Families on the Soufriere Relief Grant for displaced families due to the Eruption.

Seven (7) new cases were reported from one hundred and eighty-seven (187) samples processed on Tuesday, 31st August , 2021, resulting in a positivity rate of 3.7%.
