Saint Vincent and the Grenadines today, 1st September, confirmed one (1) new COVID-19 case. The new case belongs to the group of Swedish travelers who arrived in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines on 19th August from Grenada with negative PCR results for tests done on 15th August, 2020. The adult, a close contact of the last two positive cases announced on 26th August, initially tested negative during the first round of contact tracing. Continued screening, as per the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment’s testing protocols, has now revealed this close contact as positive for SARSCoV-2, the virus which causes COVID-19.
The National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO), is urging Vincentians to step up their hurricane preparedness as we approach the official peak of the hurricane season.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), in its release of its annual August update to the Atlantic Hurricane Season outlook, initially issued in May; stated that “atmospheric and oceanic conditions are primed to fuel storm development in the Atlantic, leading to what could be an “extremely active” season”. The NOAA also stated that this is one of the most active seasonal forecasts that it has produced in its 22-year history of hurricane outlooks, as the “2020 Atlantic Hurricane Season has been off to a rapid pace and has the potential to be one of the busiest on record.”
The National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) held a stakeholders’ consultation on August 18 -19, 2020 to finalize the St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ National Comprehensive Disaster Management (CDM), Policy and Strategy.
