Units within the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions - National Prosecution Service (ODPP-NPS)
- General Administration
- The persons assigned to this Unit interface most readily and directly with the general public.
- They coordinate the reception and distribution of correspondence
- Case Management Unit
- The persons assigned to this Unit interface most with casefiles.
- They process the casefiles into the ODPP-NPS and thereafter are responsible for the management of the casefiles – noting what is to be done on them and the associated deadlines; track the movement of the casefiles in between ODPP-NPS personnel and external law enforcement agencies; and the casefiles’ listings at the various courts throughout the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court (Magistrates, High Courts and the Court of Appeal) and His Majesty's Most Honourable Privy Council (the Privy Council).
- Witness Care Unit
- This Unit serves as a support for witnesses in matters pending at courts, with the primary immediate focus on the Family Court and High Courts of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
- This Unit is also responsible for making arrangements for intimidated or vulnerable witnesses to give evidence from a secure location.
- Witnesses’ needs are assessed, including the determination of whether counselling is required – and referrals are made if deemed necessary. Information regarding the status of matters, including reminders of upcoming listings, is channeled to witnesses through this Unit.
- Bail and Remand Unit
- Correspondence from persons on remand at His Majesty’s Prison are addressed by this Unit.
- The aforementioned correspondence includes but is not limited to bail applications and requests for bail variation by defendants who are seeking bail from the High Court.
- Summary Prosecution Unit
- Several Summary Prosecutors (officers on assignment and interns) comprise this Unit. Majority of the matters for the various lower courts are prosecuted by this Team.
- Apex
- This Unit manages the online database for casefiles that traffic through the ODPP-NPS.
- Transcriptionist
- Transcription of all electronic interviews are done by this Unit
- Counsel
- This Unit is comprised of solely of lawyers who supervise Summary Prosecutors, the Bail Unit, Witness Care Unit, prosecute matters at the High Court and Court of Appeal chiefly and occasionally Magistrates’ courts. These lawyers are also responsible for providing guidance to all law enforcement agencies in matters of a criminal nature.
