Deputy Director of Information Technology Services Division (ITSD), Mrs. Jacintha Fergus; along with Mr. Anthony McMaster, Chairman of the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU); and Mr. Nigel Cassimiere, Acting Secretary General of CTU; gathered the press on Tuesday 18th, March 2018, at the Beachcombers Hotel, to hold discussions about Information Communications Technology (ICT), week.
Mr. McMaster stated that last year, during the hurricanes which devastated Caribbean Islands, they learnt a few lessons on how to improve in the event of future storms. He also said that while their goal is to get all government agencies in the Caribbean to the 21st century level, there are still some difficulties faced. They include limited resources and funds for new technology and education.
Although these countries are on different levels of advancement, the main goal for the CTU is to make it easier for people to have access to online resources and how to best deliver information to the public.
The government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, in collaboration with the CTU, is hosting ICT week from March 19th - 23rd, 2018. This is the 36th Executive Council Meeting and this year’s theme is," 21st Century Government".
The focus will be on capacity-building and outreach to the community. There will also be an ICTU road show event involving primary and secondary school students on Friday 23rd, March 2018, in Kingstown.
