Welcome to the official website of the Government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

The Ministry of Finance, Economic Planning, Sustainable Development and Information Technology, is collaborating with the Ministry of Tourism, Sports and Culture, the Open Core Team, the Information Technology Services Division and the National Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (NTRC), to hold a session introducing open mapping concepts, using Open StreetMap (OSM) - a crowd-sourced open maps and open map tool.

The session takes place at the Ministry of Health conference room, on 12th March, beginning at 8:15 a.m.. The introductory session will be followed by four days of training workships for civic minded mappers and cartographers, using OpenStreetMap and QGIS, an open source GIS software.

The training offers an opportunity for participants to learn about the growing importance of web-based mapping, and get started as an open mapper and start organising mapping events across the country. Participants will be drawn from public, private and academic sectors.

The training workshops will be led by Ms. Maggie Cawley, an organiser for Tach OSM, and board member for OpenStreetMap-US and Mr. Steven Johnson an organiser for TeachOSM, an initiative aimed at promoting the use of OSM for teaching geography. The training is another collaborative effort between the government and the World Bank.

Chief Statistician, Ms. Gatlin Roberts, Ministry of Finance, Economic Planning, Sustainable Development and Information Technology, is available for further information or interviews. Please contact 457-2921.
