The Ministry with responsibility for the Public Service, through the Public Sector Reform Unit (PSRU), hosted a send-off cocktail at Sandals Resorts in St. Vincent and the Grenadines on June 20th, 2026, to honour public officers who retired or are scheduled to retire between July 1st, 2025, and June 30th, 2026.
Addressing the gathering, Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Major St. Clair Leacock underscored the importance of this year’s theme, “Transforming Public Institutions: Advancing Innovation, Participation and Inclusion,” describing it as a reflection of the direction of St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ public service. He emphasised that the observance is “more than ceremony” and serves as “a national act of remembrance and renewal,” recognising the dedication of public officers who deliver essential services to Vincentians every day.
The Deputy Prime Minister explained that participation means government works “with people, in consultation, in dialogue, and in genuine partnership,” while inclusion ensures that “no Vincentian, regardless of where they live, what they own, or what challenges they carry, is left outside the reach of the state’s care.” Highlighting the Government’s commitment to public servants, he referenced ongoing pension reform discussions, stating that the administration is working to improve retirement security.
He declared, “The notion that the category of our workers in the public service are non-pensioners will become a thing of the past under this administration. You work for the government; you must be provided for and protected in your latter years.”
