Minister of Housing, Hon. Andrew John, has announced the appointment of constituency housing assessors to ensure that housing needs are evaluated consistently and efficiently.
“Our assessors have been working diligently throughout the country to identify those most in need and to establish clear priorities,” Minister John said. “Their assessments allow us to ensure that available resources are directed to the families facing the greatest housing challenges.”

Minister John also praised the pace of construction observed in North Leeward, noting that some projects have advanced from foundation to roofing within approximately five (5) weeks.
“This demonstrates what can be achieved through effective planning, committed contractors, and strong collaboration. Our goal is to deliver quality homes in the shortest possible time while maintaining high construction standards,” he disclosed.
The Minister further announced the expansion of the housing programme into the Grenadines through a collaborative initiative supported by Ian Wace. The partnership will assist with housing interventions in Union Island, Canouan, Mayreau, and Bequia, enabling the Ministry to accelerate housing delivery throughout the Southern Grenadines while increasing capacity to undertake additional projects on the mainland.
To improve efficiency, the Ministry has also established centralized storage and distribution systems for construction materials, allowing projects across multiple communities to progress simultaneously.
Current projections indicate that homes presently under construction could be completed within approximately five (5) weeks, allowing beneficiaries to occupy their new residences as quickly as possible. The Ministry also expects to complete a significant number of additional housing repairs before the end of the year, with a further expansion of the programme planned for 2027.
The Minister of Housing expressed appreciation to the technical staff, assessors, contractors, and all stakeholders whose dedication has contributed to the programme’s success.
“The progress achieved thus far reflects the commitment of everyone involved. Despite fiscal challenges, contractors and Ministry personnel have continued to work diligently and professionally to ensure that families receive the safe and secure housing they deserve. Together, we will continue advancing this important national initiative for the benefit of our people.”
Minister John made these remarks during a recent visit to North Leeward with Area Representative, Hon. Dr. Kishore Shallow. Both Ministers emphasized that even in the face of financial challenges, the Government remains committed to delivering practical solutions that improve the quality of life for vulnerable families.
