Fellow Vincentians,
July 1st, 2024, is a day many of us will never forget. It was the day Hurricane Beryl brought unimaginable devastation to our nation, with the Southern Grenadines bearing the greatest burden.
On Union Island, thousands of our people saw their homes damaged or destroyed and an entire community was left forever changed. In Mayreau, almost every home and building was affected, while Canouan and Bequia also suffered significant damage. Families lost not only their homes but also their possessions, their livelihoods and for many, the sense of security they had always known. Hundreds were forced into emergency shelters as they began the difficult journey of rebuilding their lives.
The work is far from over and my government remains fully committed to restoring the Grenadines and ensuring that every affected community is rebuilt stronger and more resilient than before.
Very soon, we will launch a major Recovery and Resilience Project that will deliver meaningful investments in housing, infrastructure and community recovery. We must restore lives, renew hope and give the people of the Grenadines the opportunity to move forward with confidence. As we continue through the 2026 hurricane season, I encourage every Vincentian to remain prepared. We know all too well how quickly circumstances can change and we must never take our safety for granted. My government will continue to do its part to prepare our nation and I ask each of you to do yours as well.
