The Ministry of Housing, Land Management, Urban Development and Informal Settlement held a Building Code Workshop on Wednesday, 17th June, 2026, at the University of the West Indies Global Campus, Kingstown.
Aimed at enhancing the skills and knowledge of construction professionals across Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, the workshop addressed key industry standards, best practices, and innovative construction techniques amid challenges such as natural disasters and climate change.
The Building Code Workshop featured a series of interactive sessions led by industry experts and seasoned professionals. Topics included building codes and regulations, sustainable construction practices, project management strategies, and safety protocols. Participants had the opportunity to network with peers and gain valuable insights to apply to their work in the field.
Speaking at the training, Permanent Secretary (Ag) in the Ministry of Housing, Dornet Hull, stated that the training comes at an opportune time and encouraged those in attendance to work as a team to “build stronger, safer homes for the people in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.” Hull added that “climate change is real, and we have to understand that building guidelines in the building code are imperative to the resilience of our housing stock when disaster strikes.”
With the construction industry constantly evolving, Senior Building Inspector in the Physical Planning Unit, Imran Williams, informed participants of the latest standards and practices. Williams noted that “physical planning guides land use and development to ensure sustainable growth and efficient resource use.”
The workshop was held under the theme: “Practical Application of the Building Code and Guidelines as a Means of Building Resiliently.”
