The National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines on Friday, 26th June, 2026, concluded its High Frequency Equipment Installation and Training Workshop with a closing ceremony held at the Police Training School Headquarters in Old Montrose, Kingstown.
The ceremony marked the successful completion of an intensive five-day Training of Trainers programme, which ran from 15th to 19th June, 2026. The workshop was funded through the CDEMA BRICS Programme and organized by NEMO in partnership with the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA). It was implemented under the regional initiative known as the Upgrade to National Disaster Offices High Frequency Communications Project.

Addressing participants at the closing ceremony, Courtney King, Senior Programme Officer for Telecommunications at CDEMA, highlighted the importance of strengthening emergency communications capacity across the region. “The training was completed over the course of a week and was quite intensive. We examined the various components of the radio systems, including the assembly and disassembly of the equipment. We also explored radio programming in depth, ensuring that participants understand how to programme the radios for different applications and build larger communications networks in the future,” King said.

Also addressing the gathering was Kenston Stoddard, Deputy Director of NEMO, who underscored the critical role of emergency communication systems in disaster preparedness and response. “The Sustainable Development Goals recognize emergency communications and early warning systems as a force multiplier. In other words, they are the cornerstone of our response, preparedness, and actions during emergencies. Through these mechanisms, we are better able to save lives,” Stoddard disclosed.

The workshop forms part of ongoing regional efforts to enhance disaster management capabilities and strengthen high-frequency communication networks among national disaster offices throughout the Caribbean.
The ceremony concluded with participants receiving certificates in recognition of their successful completion of the High-Frequency Equipment Installation and Training Workshop.
