The St. Vincent and the Grenadines National Parks, Rivers and Beaches Authority launched an environmental club at Zsoka Academy on Monday, June 8th, 2026, under the theme “Nurturing Young Minds to Protect Our Planet.” The initiative aims to inspire students to care for and protect their environment.
Mrs. Je Anne Jones-Ellis, teacher at Zsoka Academy, emphasized the significance of the occasion, stating: “Today marks the beginning of an exciting journey as we commit ourselves to caring for and protecting the environment around us. The Environmental Club was established to help students develop a deeper appreciation for nature and to encourage responsible actions that contribute to a cleaner and healthier community.”
Marketing and Public Relations Manager and School environmental club Coordinator at the National Parks, Rivers and Beaches Authority, Twanique Barrow, explained the vision behind the initiative: “This initiative was birthed by the National Parks, Rivers and Beaches Authority, and what we are hoping to do is nurture a movement of young people who are committed to protecting our environment and creating a cleaner and greener future for all.”
Elspeth Adams, Senior Education Officer in the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Innovation, Digital Transformation and Information, encouraged students to embrace their role as environmental stewards.
“Every time you pick up a piece of litter, every time you protect a tree, and every time you learn about the amazing creatures that live in our rivers and oceans, you are making a difference. This club is a factory for change; it is a place where your curiosity can turn into action.” She further reaffirmed the ministry’s support for the initiative, stating: “The Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Innovation, Digital Transformation and Information stands fully behind you, and we cannot wait to see the amazing projects that you will bring to life.”
The environmental club forms part of the Authority’s ongoing efforts to promote environmental awareness and stewardship among young people across Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
