Welcome to the official website of the Government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

The government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is expanding its housing recovery and resilience programme with the delivery of prefabricated homes to vulnerable families, as efforts continue to support those affected by Hurricane Beryl and other natural disasters.

Minister of Housing, Hon. Andrew John, recently visited Calder, where a newly completed steel-frame home is ready for handover. During the visit, he also confirmed that another vulnerable resident facing unsafe living conditions has been approved to receive assistance under the initiative.

The housing programme targets vulnerable individuals and families, including those whose homes were damaged or who continue to face significant housing challenges. According to Minister John, the initiative is about more than rebuilding structures—it is about restoring security, dignity, and stability. “Housing is not just about shelter. It is about dignity, pride, and giving people a safe and comfortable place to call home,” he said.

The prefabricated units, designed to provide affordable and resilient housing solutions, are being constructed as part of the government’s broader strategy to accelerate post-disaster recovery while improving long-term housing security.

Construction Supervisor Starra Johnson said the programme is already delivering tangible benefits and credited the partnership with collaborators from Trinidad and Tobago for helping to streamline construction. The two-bedroom homes can be completed within six to eight weeks, significantly reducing the time families must wait to return to safe living conditions.

Minister John also confirmed that additional units have been secured and that housing recovery work is progressing in communities across the country. Alongside new home construction, the Ministry continues to undertake roof repairs, home rehabilitation projects, building material distribution, and infrastructure upgrades.

As recovery efforts advance, the Minister of Housing says his focus remains on ensuring that vulnerable Vincentians are not left behind. Through a combination of new housing solutions and community-based rebuilding initiatives, the programme is helping families move from uncertainty to stability while strengthening resilience against future disasters.
