The Ministry of Fisheries, Marine and Land Conservation and Climate Resilience remains committed to building a fisheries sector that is inclusive, climate resilient, science-based, and people-centred.
This is according to Minister of Fisheries, Marine and Land Conservation and Climate Resilience Conroy Huggins, who on Monday, May 25th, 2026, during the Fisherman’s Day activities, called on fisherfolk to work with the government.
The Minister said that the government remains fully committed to building a fisheries sector that is up to date, climate resilient, science-based, inclusive, and sustainable, and as a result continues to demonstrate commitment through increased national development in the fisheries and the blue economy sectors, as shown in the 2026 estimates of revenue and expenditure.
He said that approximately EC$14.3 million was allocated to the Ministry of Fisheries, Marine and Land Conservation and Climate Resilience, including over $8.4 million in capital expenditure to support fisheries infrastructure, marine conservation, climate resilience, and blue economy initiatives.
“These investments reflect our government’s recognition that fisheries remain critical to food security, employment, rural livelihoods, and sustainable economic growth,” the Minister stressed. He noted that the blue economy represents one of the greatest opportunities for Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), which has marine space that is 90 times its collective land mass.
Our “… rich biodiversity, abundant fisheries resources, yachting potential, and valuable coastal ecosystems,” uniquely positions us “to strengthen ocean-based industries and expand sustainable economic opportunities for all Vincentians,” Minister Huggins reiterated.
