Rehabilitation work on Gomea road is progressing steadily, with approximately 60% of the paving now completed, according to the overseers of the development. Ievan Oliveres, Civil Engineer, stated that the project involves the construction and paving of approximately 2,000 meters of roadway using asphalt concrete. DIPCOM Engineering is responsible for paving operations and laying the asphalt surface.
Oliveres explained that the asphalt being applied is of a high quality and proper thickness, specifically designed to withstand heavy trucks and different types of vehicles. He noted that less than 700 metres of paving remain and expressed confidence that the remaining work could be completed in the next couple of days.
He stated, “We are putting good pavement with good quality and good thickness to hold heavy trucks and high traffic.” This shows that the completed road will provide lasting benefits to residents and motorists using the area. DIPCOM Engineering Site Technician, Damara Callis, confirmed that asphalt paving operations have progressed smoothly without major technical challenges. She explained that her team is responsible specifically for laying the asphalt and that fourteen (14) workers are currently assigned to the project.
According to Callis, traffic management has been one of the key considerations throughout the project. While residents and drivers in the area have generally been cooperative, on “evening, that's where the problem lies, when they want to get home. So, we just kind of like try to work around it so that they can get from where they are to their home,” Callis explained.
Callis addressed questions regarding sections of the roadway that were temporarily left unfinished. She disclosed that the paving team initially began work at the top of the road before shifting to the lower end to accommodate additional construction activities in another area. With those works now completed, crews have returned to continue paving from the top downward.
Both engineers expressed confidence that the project will be completed as soon as possible to fully reopen the roadway and improve transportation for the surrounding community.
