The North Union Secondary School held its first “Girls Only” empowerment session on Tuesday, 17th March, 2026, under the theme, “Give to Gain: Balance the Scales – Rights, Justice and Action for All Women and Girls.”
The day included a number of activities and discussions including Sexual and Reproductive Health, Money Management, Confidence, Personal Hygiene, Patience and Justice, Overcoming Self-doubt and Careers.
These activities and response sessions were aimed at promoting positive femininity, emotional well-being, respect for self and others, and a supportive sisterhood among female students.
The guest speaker was Zonelle Wilkinson, who encouraged students to be wise, make the best use of their time, respect themselves, and make good decisions regarding their bodies.
Counsellor at the North Union Secondary School, Colville Thorpe, highlighted the importance of the initiative, stating, “Today is a reminder that our girls deserve opportunities to be seen and acknowledged. Continue to believe in yourselves, support each other, and never underestimate the power you hold within yourselves.”
Principal of the North Union Secondary School, Sherene Wilkinson, said, “Today’s event marks a celebration of excellence and commitment, nurturing young girls as they navigate the challenges of life. It is important that we provide role models to educate, reward, and inspire. Young girls should know that hard work, determination, and discipline always bear fruit. The aim is to produce well-rounded girls who are able to achieve their full potential.”
