Welcome to the official website of the Government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

The Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) Friendship Foundation (UK) has reaffirmed its commitment to education and community development with the distribution of bursaries to 120 students across the country.

The handing-over ceremony, held at the National Insurance Services (NIS) Conference Room, was attended by government officials, educators, parents, and students.

Each beneficiary received a bursary of EC$200 to assist with school supplies, uniforms, and other essentials, along with an EC$200 voucher redeemable at Jax Enterprises. To support this initiative, Jax Enterprises was allocated EC$25,000 to service the vouchers and, in turn, pledged an additional EC$5,000. The company has also extended an additional credit of EC$3,900, allowing approximately 50 more students to benefit from the programme.

The bursary programme, spearheaded by the SVG Friendship Foundation (UK), continues to exemplify the positive impact of the Vincentian Diaspora, ensuring that the nation’s youth are equipped with the tools needed to pursue their education and achieve future success.

Delivering remarks at the event, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Consumer Affairs, Hon. Frederick Stephenson, described the initiative as a celebration of generosity, partnership, and the enduring bond between Vincentians at home and abroad.

“This ceremony reminds us that compassion knows no border, and that meaningful partnership cannot only be built between governments but also between communities, organizations and individuals, united by shared commitment to humanity,” Minister Stephenson said.

He further highlighted the Ministry’s role in bridging connections between Vincentians overseas and the local community. “SVG Friendship Trust is a shining example of how our Diaspora, working in organized and committed ways, can mobilize resources that have a direct and lasting impact,” the Minister noted, adding that the contributions would ease financial burdens and open doors of opportunity for students as they prepare for the new academic year.

Dr. Minerva Glasgow underscored the importance of the initiative, describing education as a life-changing force. She commended the SVG Friendship Foundation (UK) for its dedication to reducing inequality through consistent support.

“It is a proud moment to present these contributions to students in need. Education enhances forward growth, self-confidence, and the development of skills that lead to a more satisfying and engaged life,” Dr. Glasgow said, urging students to make full use of the bursaries.

Chairman of the SVG Friendship Foundation (UK), Sir Louis Straker, also addressed parents and students, encouraging responsible use of the bursaries. “This support must go directly towards the needs of the students,” he emphasized.

Director of the NIS, Stewart Haynes, was the featured speaker, sharing his own journey of receiving scholarships at different stages of his education. He underscored the power of generosity and education to transform lives, encouraging students to rise above their circumstances.

“What you receive is more than a gift, it is a reminder that you are valued, loved, and capable of achieving great things. One day, you too will be in a position to give back, and when you do, the cycle of generosity will continue,” Haynes stressed.
