The Public Sector Reform Unit (PSRU) through the Ministry of the Public Service has planned three activities to join the nation in celebrating Independence Day.

These activities would be carried out during Public Service Patriotic Week starting from the 21st October, 2024 utilizing the Independence theme for this year, “Forty-Five Years of Togetherness, Prosperity and Perseverance”. The following objectives for this year’s Public Service Patriotic Week are: 

  • To foster relationships among the public, private and social sectors
  • To promote national pride and solidarity
  • To highlight the importance of a healthy lifestyle

ACTIVITIES 

A. Decorate your Office Space/Environment

  • Decorate offices with National flags, blue, gold and green clothes, decorative papers, etc.
    • Keep office decoration simple and elegant with each desk having smaller flags, etc.
  • Photo Booth and Reels Making
    • In today’s era of social media, it is encouraged that we communicate, share information, and connect with each other thus, photo booths and making Independence Day reels will elevate the feeling of patriotism among staff and also showcase the healthy work culture of the workplace to the external public.
  • Utilize the hashtag #svg45independence on all social media platforms when uploading pictures.

B. Patriotic Costume Contest

  • Encourage staff to dress in the Independence Day-themed dress code to add to the decoration.
  • Have an internal competition by hosting a costume contest. Offer small rewards/prizes for the most creative, the most outrageous, and the most historically accurate outfits.
  • Utilize the hashtag #svg45independence on all social media platforms when uploading pictures.

C. Public Service Independence Glow -Walk 

In collaboration with Min. of Health etc. and Sports Department etc., a glow walk has been organized to promote health and well-being amongst public servants. The route for the walk takes into consideration the InvestSVG Night Market. Thus, the anticipated start is from the National Insurance Service (NIS) car park on Bay Street, head towards the ET Joshua Centre and return to car park on Bay Street for a ‘cool-down’ session. Participants can then patronize the Night Market. The general public is welcome to join.

To encourage participation and to bring some fun elements to the event, there will be prizes for the following areas:

  • Oldest walker (Male and Female)
  • Youngest walker (Male and Female)
  • Most patriotic walker (Male and Female)
  • Best Patriotically dressed couple
  • Mini Burn-Out competition (Male/Female)
  • Largest Crew (Ministries/Department/ Business organizations)

Winners of the categories mentioned above will be announced at the Night Market on Saturday, 26th October, 2024.

Persons desirous of attending the walk will be required to register, online registration forms will be made available.

Tokens will be provided for the first 500 registered persons. PSRU has partnered with a few organizations to make this activity possible and successful. These tokens will be provided by some of them.
