Ambassador H.E. Peter Shai-Li Lan in his remarks, said this is the twenty- fifth ceremony held to hand over Bursary Scholarships to recipients in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. “Education cooperation is probably one of the strongest pillars of the cooperation between Taiwan and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines” said Ambassador Lan, and “I hope everyone here think about how to best to use this scholarship in supporting your continued effort in the path of pursuing a higher degree of education”.

Ambassador Lan said one of the reasons ROC (Taiwan) launched the Bursary Scholarship Program in SVG, is to open up doors for every Vincentian student.

Minster of Education the Hon Curtis King said the friendship between the ROC(Taiwan) and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines continue to provide great support to both countries.  King said an investment in education is significant and important to national development and Taiwan is a great example of this.

Minister King noted Taiwan has consistently invested in the education and training of their people and have reaped the benefits; and have done so well they are in a position to share with other countries from this experience.

“We in these developing countries, we must emulate countries that invest significantly in their education so that we too can put ourselves in a position where we can earn the sort of resources that ultimately will allow us to share” King said.  Minister King thanked the Republic of China (Taiwan) for their support in the form of the Bursary Scholarship program over the last 25 years.

A total of five hundred and twenty-four (524) Bursary Scholarships were given to students for the year 2022. The scholarships valued at a total of EC$320,000 will go towards supporting the students with school supplies, meals and transportation.

To date, more than eleven thousand, five Hundred (11,500) Vincentian students have already benefited from the Bursary Program since its launch in 1998.
