The historic Fort Charlotte Site will undergo extensive restoration and upgrades under a regional initiative funded by the World Bank. Currently the work is in its design phase under the OECS Regional Tourism Competitiveness Project.

The changes include a display area for the (re-enactment of historical events), a complete restoration of the courtyard as well as amenities for visitors. The total cost of the restoration of Fort Charlotte amounts to approximately 1.7 to 2 million US dollars.;

Minister of Tourism, Sports and Culture, Hon. Carlos James said the restoration of Fort Charlotte is part of a wider initiative to rehabilitate a number of forts across the country and to enlighten visitors of the forts’ history.

Minister James also identified other recreational sites that are scheduled for renovations as well, including upgrading facilities at the Brighton Salt Pond, Indian Bay and improving the Villa Board walk.

Coordinator of the OECS Regional Tourism Competitiveness Project, Christo Primus along with Minister of Tourism Carlos James and other officials from the World Bank visited the site on Friday, 2nd September, 2022.

Work on Fort Charlotte is scheduled to begin in late November of this year (2022) and is expected to end in September 2023.  The initial construction of the Fort began in 1763 and was completed and named in 1806.
