In an effort to increase classroom space at the Liberty Lodge Boys Training Centre, the Mustique Charitable Trust aided in the refurbishment of a room into a classroom. The new classroom will be used for remedial education.
In a handing over ceremony today, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Mobilisation, Social Development, Family and Gender Affairs, Catherine De Frietas, thanked the Mustique Charitable Trust for their assistance and commended them for responding to a need to build a classroom at the centre.
The Mustique Charitable Trust donated $5,675.85 to aid in obtaining materials and supplies such as books, chairs, box seats and fans. De Frietas said the Ministry will continue to support remedial education at the institution and said that the classroom will be “utilised to its fullest capacity”.
Administrative Director of the Mustique Charitable Trust, Dularie Malcolm, said the Mustique Charitable Trust has a history of helping and thanked the artisans, residents and boys at the Liberty Lodge for their help in creating the classroom setting.
Assistant Project Director, Kenroy Boucher said that the project commenced in December 2020 but experienced setbacks due to the COVID-19 pandemic as well as the La Soufriere volcanic eruption.
The Liberty Lodge Boys Centre was established in 1969 with the mission of creating a safe, secure, space conducive to learning and productivity for vulnerable and at risk youth between the ages of 7 to 16.
The Centre thrives on the philosophy that “Lives can be changed for the better through strategic and timely intervention.”
