Welcome to the official website of the Government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

Sir David Emmanuel Jack emerged on earth on 16th July, in the year of Our Lord 1918, the son of Wilson and Margaret Jack.

On the way he gave freely of himself as an educator, an accountant, an oil refinery plant operator, an agricultural industrialist, a local preacher, a credit unionist, a Minister of Labour and Community Development, a Minister of Health, a Governor-General, a husband, and a father.

For the most part of his 80-year sojourn in this world, David continually impressed all who knew him by his Humility, Meekness, Patience, Honesty, Kindness and Intelligence as he served as Teacher, Accountant, Business Manager, Politician, Minister of Government, Preacher and Head of State.

The Nation fondly remembers Sir David especially for his distinguished service as Governor General during the years  1989 through 1996. He bore the glory and prestige of this high office with extreme humility even while he performed with customary efficiency and exhibited the dignity, grace and stateliness the office demands.

Some will  remember him as the Hon. David Jack, Parliamentary Representative and Minister of Government. The Constituents of North Windward in particular will recall his untiring efforts during 1984 to 1989, almost in the evening of his life as he endeavoured to lay the foundation for the several improvements that have taken place in that part of the country during recent years.

The prospect of the lands at Orange Hill being transferred to the people in that area evoked such emotion, excitement and enthusiasm in him, that his family and colleagues became concerned for the huge heart in this little man. This emotion and enthusiasm, however, did not overwhelm his principled position on several issues relating to the distribution of those lands and the development of the area in general. On several occasions had it not been for his diplomacy and obvious sincerity, chaos and confusion would have resulted. The people of North Windward loved, respected and trusted him.

The Prime Minister and other Cabinet colleagues remember him as a trusted and loyal friend, who listened well, who often performed the role of Counsellor, whose impartiality was unquestionable and whose loyalty to the causes he supported and the principles he cherished was difficult to erode without convincing evidence to the contrary.
