The Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Constitution Order 1979 provides for the Office of a Governor-General appointed by Her Majesty and who shall hold Office during Her Majesty's pleasure, which means The Queen acting on the advice of the Prime Minister.

Subject to the provision of the Constitution, the executive authority of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, which is vested in Her Majesty may be exercised on her behalf by The Governor-General either directly or through Officers subordinate to him/her.

The functions of the Office of The Governor-General are statutory, ceremonial, traditional and social, authority for which lies with the Constitution, legislation enacted by Parliament, traditional and protocol.
