As part of activities to observe World Health Day 2017, the Health Promotion Unit within the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment held a panel discussion at the Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Community College (SVGCC), Division of Arts, Science and General Studies, on Thursday, 6th April.

The topic of the discussion was "Depression - Let's talk", and the students were briefed on a number of different aspects relating to it. On the panel were: Ms. Dian Bailey, Dr. Karen Providence, Ms. Ellica Matthews and Dr. Jozelle Miller.

Ms. Dian Bailey, who is a Senior Nursing Officer at the Mental Health Rehabilitation Center, gave a testimony from a past patient, before discussing the relationship between depression and alcohol consumption. Dr. Karen Providence, who is a medical practitioner, gave a presentation on physiology and the medical perspective of depression. Ms. Ellica Matthews, counselor at the Mental Health Rehabilitation Center, gave a presentation on the manifestation of the depression illness, and focused on the signs and symptoms of depression. Dr. Jozelle Miller, Psychologist, gave a presentation on the response of family and friends to depressed individuals.
