Welcome to the official website of the Government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Dr. The Hon. Ralph E. Gonsalves, is currently in Japan for an official state visit.

Dr. Gonsalves, during his last press conference held on July 23rd, revealed that Japanese Prime Minister, His Excellency, Shinzō Abehe, had extended the invitation to him.

Whilst in Japan, Prime Minister Gonsalves will discuss with his Japanese counterpart matters including: CARCIOM and OECS concerns, trade, climate change, geothermal energy, fisheries, investment, education and technology.

Speaking at the press conference, Dr. Gonsalves said “there are matters I want to talk to them about … to get a better understanding about certain things that are happening in Asia.  I want to talk to them about Security Council reform.”  On the matter of fisheries, Prime Minister Gonsalves said his interest lies in the “sustainable use of marine resources; which is an euphemism… often attached to matters concerning whaling.”

Dr. Gonsalves noted that attracting investments is very important and as such he would try to get Japanese investors interested also in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.  He also revealed that the issue of locally produced goods for trade with Japan is also a matter down for discussion as we already import significantly from Japan.

While in Japan, Dr. Gonsalves will also engage in sightseeing and attend state dinners.  He left the State on August 3rd and will return on August 9th, 2018.
