Signing ceremonies for laboratories at two secondary schools, one at the Troumaca Ontario Secondary School and the other at the West St George Secondary School was held on Monday, 18th March, 2024.

At Troumaca, the Science Laboratory will be retrofitted while at West St George Secondary, a new Commercial Food Preparation Laboratory will be built.

The laboratories will be built with funding from the Government of the Republic of China On Taiwan through the TX Foundation based in Taiwan, to the tune of US $28,652 at Troumaca and US$77,391 at the West St George Secondary.

Addressing the forum, Senior Education Officer Aldia Dyer expressed her delight in the retrofitting of the Science Lab as this will improve the student’s critical thinking skills as they delve into the field of the sciences.

The Taiwan Ambassador to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), Her Excellency Fiona Fan, endorsed Taiwan’s continued support to this country in facilitating improvements in many areas of development including Education. These partnerships “aim to strengthen our bi-lateral ties,” the Ambassador stated.

Ambassador Fan also used the opportunity to encourage students to take advantage of the Taiwanese scholarships so that they can return to their country and serve.

Parliamentary Representative for North Leeward, Hon. Carlos James said there needs to be a focus on the Sciences and that he was pleased Taiwan and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines partnered with promoting education here.

Minister of Education, Hon. Curtis King, thanking the foundation for their assistance, said that the Ministry of Education is committed to providing the necessary adjustments to the curriculum to accommodate all areas of study from the sciences to Technical and Vocational Education.

The TX foundation is foundation based in Taiwan and has assisted over eighty countries.
