The Deputy Chief Education Officer said the workshop is a very important one for the Ministry of Education and that early childhood education plays an important part in the development of any education system.  Findlay stated that a good early childhood education foundation will see benefits at all levels thus he urged stakeholders to "get it right early".  He acknowledged that the Government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines has been doing a lot in early childhood education and has constructed 11 early childhood centers across the country.

According to Findlay, these centers were opened to serve areas that were under-served by the private sector.  Currently, three centers are being constructed in Park Hill, Biabou and Richland Park.  Findlay thanked UNICEF and the OECS Secretariat for their support in developing the curriculum and all those persons who were instrumental in the development of the early childhood sector over the years.

Workshop sessions will cover national context, the proposed Early Childhood Development (ECD) curriculum framework, overview of the strands, goals and learning outcomes, implementation of the proposed curriculum framework and next steps. Antoninus Thomas of St. Lucia and Genevieve McMaster (Assistant to Education Officer, Early Childhood at Ministry of Education & Culture, British Virgin Islands) are the workshop facilitators.  It is being held at the Frenches House and will conclude on Friday 31st, January,  2020.
