The VI Inter-American Week for Indigenous Peoples will be celebrated from 7th – 11th August, 2023, under the theme: Indigenous Youth as Agents of Change for Self-determination in the Americas: Intergenerational connections.

To this end, an invitation is extended to you to participate in 'A Chat with the OAS' scheduled to be held on Friday, August 11 at 1:00 P.M. (EDT). In recognition of the Week’s overarching theme, the upcoming Chat will target a virtual audience of government officials, diplomats, academics, and students from across the Americas and tackle the sub-theme: The role of gastronomy in preserving time-honored tradition customs and strengthening indigenous identity.

The Chat will focus on indigenous cultural practices and how the intergenerational transfer of culinary traditions serves as a means of cultural preservation, safeguarding indigenous culture in modern society for generations to come. During the Chat, panelist will share their perspectives and insights on such culinary practices, thereby highlighting the significance of indigenous foods across the Americas.

Chief Augustine "Sardo" Sutherland from the Kalinago Tribe of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines will be part of the panel of presenters.

The opening ceremony to launch the week took place at the OAS Headquarters in Washington DC on Monday, August 7 at 10:30 a.m. EDT with interpretation in all 4 official OAS languages.
