The capacity of the Royal Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Police Band to produce excellent music has been enhanced even more with the receiptof several pieces of instruments on Friday, November 30th, 2018 .

Four violins which were donated by the world renowned Borusan String quartet based in Turkey were handed over by Governor General Sir Frederick Ballantyne in a brief ceremony held at the office of the Governor General.

The Governor General said he thought of the police band as the appropriate recipient of the instruments as he believes the band “is an excellent band.” According to him “They make a significant contribution to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, apart from that they are excellent musicians” .

Sir Frederick said he would love to see the band expand and have a string quartet as part of its group of musicians. He also hinted at the possibility of a joint concert with the donors of the violins or maybe a visiting experience for some of the members of the band.

Sir Frederick said hopefully a relationship can be developed between the police band and the internationally known string quartet.
Leader of the RSVG Police band, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Daniel Hall, thanked Sir Frederick and the donors for the instruments pledging that they would be well maintained.

“We are very happy to be receiving these instruments as they would enhance the quality, sound, flavour and colour of the music band and to be considered to be receiving these instruments it means that the police band is doing something good.” ASP Hall said the strings are new to the police band so training would be required for the members.

The Borusan Quartet visited Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and performed at the Peace Memorial Hall on December 11th, 2016.
