Prime Minister, Hon. Dr. Ralph E. Gonsalves, is attending the Assembly of the Organisation of the Eastern Caribbean States in Antigua and Barbuda.

OECS Heads are attending the meeting of the Assembly for the first time since 2012; one bill and one motion are listed on the agenda.

Colin Murdoch, OECS Ambassador explained that, while the agenda is a little light, the most recent thing, is to restart the Assembly. Ambassador Murdoch also opined that the long break between sittings has limited the agenda, hence, there is a need for a new Speaker and Deputy Speaker to be elected.

A number of items are expected to be addressed, including the election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Assembly and an announcement by the Speaker, among other things.

Former Minister of Culture, the Hon. Rene Baptiste was elected as the First Speaker of the OECS Assembly in 2012.
