The squad of special olympians, who recently returned from a successful outing at the Special Olympics in Abu Dhabi, was toasted at a special cocktail reception, held in their honour at the residence of the Prime Minister.

In welcoming the athletes, their trainers and family members, Prime Minister, Hon. Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, thanked the Government and people of the United Arab Emirates, and Minister of State for International Cooperation, and President of Dubai Cares, H.E. Reem Al Hashimy; for financial assistance to the Vincentian athletes who travelled to Abu Dhabi.  The Prime Minister expressed elation on the recent successful Olympics in Abu Dhabi where almost 40 Vincentians participated.

Declaring his immense pride on the recent performance of the special olympians of Saint Vincent, Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Special Olympics SVG, Sir Errol Allen, also had high praises for the trainers.  Sir Errol recognized the Board of Directors for their hard work and emphasized that the recent trip to Abu Dhabi was indeed a note-worthy accomplishment.

National Director of Special Olympics SVG, Ms. Sezevra Joseph, thanked the coaches for their efforts, and the dedication and commitment among athletes for over three years.

Coach and Training Director of the Special Olympics SVG, Mr. Terrence Davis, extended his appreciation to the athletes for the hard work put into the Special Olympics. Mr. Davis stressed that it was an exceptional showcase of skill.  The Training Director noted that it was a great time; a time where they knew they had to make Saint Vincent and the Grenadines proud.  He added that it was a moment to pay homage to past stalwarts such as Ms. Velma Jackson, Mr. Tyrone Spence, and others who passed and left a path for others to continue.
