Quality Competitiveness

Local bakery operators are being encouraged to improve the quality of their products as a means of gaining a competitive edge with the advent of the Caricom Single Market and Economy, the CSME.

The advice came from Director of the Bureau of Standards, Ezra Ledger, while speaking at the start of a seminar on Tuesday to discuss the proposed National Standard for Bread and Bakery Products here. Mr. Ledger said as the local market becomes increasingly available to regional businesses, the onus is on local producers to improve the quality of their products.

The bureau will continue to assist local bakery operators in meeting the required standards, which are recognized internationally.
