Prime Minister, Hon. Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, said that it hurts him to know that there are people in St. Vincent and the Grenadines who go to bed hungry at nights, and he wants to address this issue.

He made this statement during today’s launch, (28th July), of the ‘Adopt A Classroom Initiative’ which forms part of the Zero Hunger Fund Initiative.

Under this initiative one hundred and ninety (190) Kindergarten children from seven (7) primary schools across the country, are being provided with financial assistance to the tune of two hundred and eighty dollars ($280.00) to assist their parents with purchasing their school supplies.

Prime Minister Gonsalves also said that these schools were selected from the poorest communities within the country.

He further stated that the program was developed because they realized that, while they continue to make positive strides in the fight against poverty, more can be done in this regard.
