Welcome to the official website of the Government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

The Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO) will officially handover the Chateaubelair SMART Hospital to the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment in a ceremony scheduled for Tuesday, February 19, 2019.

This healthcare facility was renovated under Phase II of PAHO’s SMART Hospitals Project which is being carried out with the benefit of funding from the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development (DFID). This is the second SMART Healthcare facility that is being delivered to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, following on the successes of the Georgetown SMART Hospital project.

PAHO’s Health Emergencies Department had responsibility for project execution. Notably, other SMART Healthcare facilities are scheduled to be built in the upcoming months.

The PAHO SMART hospitals project aims to make health centres “green,” safe and able to function during and after natural disasters. The decision on which facilities would be covered under the project was made after an assessment of nearly 170 hospitals and health centres in the OECS/region.

The handing over ceremony will commence at 2:30 p.m. at the Hospital site in Chateaubelair.  The ceremony will be addressed by representatives of PAHO and DFID and by the Honourable Minister of Health, Wellness and the Environment.
