The Ministry of Tourism, Sports and Culture hosted a press conference on Tuesday, 31st October, at the Minister's office. 

Among matters discussed was Tourism Month, which will be observed from 1st - 30th November 2017. During that month, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines will also see the arrival of the world's largest floating book store 'Logos' on 23rd November. Additionally, the Minister made mention of the first ever 'School Bands Festival', which will be held in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, National Reconciliation and Ecclesiastical Affairs, in early December.

This cruise season, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is expected to receive a 23% increase in cruise ship calls. Last year, the island received a total of 256 cruise ship calls, while this year it is expected to receive approximately 315 calls. As a result of the increased number of tourist arrivals, the Minister mentioned that the Government is currently offering incentives to persons who are aiming to import vehicles with the intention to transport tourists.

The tourism Minister mentioned that during the month of October, the country saw the best Independence month of activities ever. This featured the inaugural ‘Masters Cricket Competition’, which was won by the North East Masters team out of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. There was also a weekend full of activities at the E.T. Joshua Airport facility which saw an 'Everything Vincy' Exhibition, featuring over 50 participants selling original Vincentian made products.

Mr. Hayden Billingy, an activist, musician and conservationist, was also present at the press conference to launch his new song 'Good Times' which depicts what he finds special about the island chain of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Mr. Andrew Wilson of the National Parks, Rivers and Beaches Authority also made mention of some restorative works planned for some of the national sites throughout the island between the period of 2017 - 2018.

The Ministry officially announced the new Tourism Jingle carrying the theme 'Tourism is everyone's business'. It was also stated that Tourism Month would officially begin on Wednesday, 1st November 2017, with a church service at the Peace Memorial Hall. The service would be conducted by Pastor Blake from the Harvest Bible Chapel, beginning at 9:00 a.m. There was also mention of a 'Tourism Shopper' promotion which would be held throughout the month at ‘Massy Stores’, where a random customer would be eligible to win tourism prizes by simply answering a tourism question correctly once called upon.
