MINISTER HAPPY WITH HOSTING OF WCC MATCHES
Two weeks after hosting the World Cup Cricket (WCC) matches, Minister of Sports Glen Beache is expressing his satisfaction with the work of the Local Organising Committee (LOC).
Addressing a media briefing held early today at the Cruise Ship Terminal, Minister Beache said Vincentians rose above and beyond what was expected of them. "I think the games went well."
He also congratulated the Royal St.Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVP) for its efforts and applauded the volunteers for their participation.
Minister Beache said that now that the games are over, efforts would be concentrated towards proper utilisation of the upgraded fields, mainly Arnos Vale, Stubbs and Sion Hill.
He said, at present, there is a review being done by a major football club out of the England for the possibility of a football school being based here. He said there are some logistics that had to be debated before a decision was made.
He however noted that the objective of generating revenue from these venues would be the main focus.
While admitting that there was still some work to be done on the complex, he told reporters that he was anxiously awaiting the official opening of the refurbished facility.
