UNESCO EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING
Hon Mike Browne, this country's representative to the United Nations Education Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), reports on the recently attended meetings of the Executive Board in Paris.
Minister Browne, who is serving a four year term on the executive board, said that on the agenda at the meeting were items such as education and science. He said that the main focus was the medium term strategy which is a six year plan for UNESCO to be implemented in 2008.
Also discussed were topics of Gender Equality and disadvantaged groups including the elderly and the disabled.
Minister Browne said Africa was given top priority in the meeting as the continent is still behind on issues such as poverty and education.
The next meeting of the Executive Board will be held in October. It will be followed by the UNESCO General Conference where Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves is scheduled to make an address.
