CUBAN SOCIAL WORKERS RETURN HOME
Fifteen Cuban social workers, who were part of the national bulb-changing exercise, were scheduled to leave the state today, at 10 am.
The young persons, along with Vincentian assistants visited homes across the country, distributing energy saving bulbs. The bulbs were donated to this country by the government of the Republic of Cuba.
On departure members of the Cuban team expressed their gratitude to the Vincentian people. They said they were welcomed into peoples homes and lives and the cross cultural sharing has made this experience a memorable one.
The rest of the team will remain in the state in order to complete the project.
Meanwhile, Cuban Ambassador to this country, Olga Trias welcomed a delegation of medical experts from Cuba.
The team, which includes an engineer in electro-medical equipment, is here to ensure that the technical conditions are in place to conduct minor surgeries for the "Vision Now" programme here in St Vincent and the Grenadines upon completion of negotiations with the Ministry of Health.
Ambassador Trias said if all goes well, only very complicated surgeries will be done in Cuba.
Two more Cuban doctors also arrived today for a period of two years brining the number of Cuban doctors here to five. There are also two Cuban nurses and two Pharmacologists working in St Vincent and the Grenadines.
