HANDING OVER OF SCHOLARSHIP GRANT FUND TO STUDENTS

Sixty three students from across St Vincent and the Grenadines have received financial assistance for their education from a scholarship grant fund in the United Kingdom.

St Vincent and the Grenadines' High Commissioner to London, His Excellency Cenio Lewis encouraged Vincentians in the United Kingdom to contribute to education in this country by donating to the fund.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony this morning, Minister of Education, Hon Girlyn Miguel said that the High Commissioner is aware that education is the flag ship of the government of this country. She said that for this reason he worked along with other Vincentians and friends of St Vincent and the Grenadines to raise six thousand pounds to distribute to students. Minister Miguel cautioned students to use the money wisely. She said that they should keep their eyes on their education which is the surest way out of poverty.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Louis Straker said that St Vincent and the Grenadines is fortunate to have a scholarship fund in the United Kingdom. He said that this is not the first time that the High Commissioner has made a donation to education in this country. Two years ago thirty thousand dollars was distributed to sixty students across the country.
