Netherlands Antilles Delegation visit SVG
Minister of Constitutional and Home Affairs of the Netherlands Antilles the Hon. Roland Duncan and his delegation who are on a fact finding mission through the countries of the OECS made a stop in St. Vincent and the Grenadines yesterday January 24.
Mr. Duncan explained that they are in the process of dismantling the Netherlands Antilles with the hope that other countries will emerge. He said, the delegation is therefore seeking information from the OECS countries as to ways in which the emerging countries can join.
Earlier today, Mr. Duncan and his delegation paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister the Hon. Dr. Ralph Gonsalves to thank him for his hospitality. In welcoming the delegation, Dr. Gonsalves promised to help to push the level of cooperation at a local and regional level.
Dr. Gonsalves said there is a long standing relationship between the people of the Regional communities and the Netherlands Antilles. He noted that lots of people built homes and businesses from the proceeds of working during and after the Second World War in the oil refineries in the Netherlands Antilles.
The delegation also held discussions with Minister of Rural Transformation, Information, Public Service and Ecclesiastical Affairs the Hon. Selmon Walters on the experiences of St. Vincent and the Grenadines in the areas of good governance and administrative development.
The Delegation will leave the country this afternoon for Barbados and later go on to visit Dominica, St. Kitts & Nevis and Antigua & Barbuda.
