LA CROIX RECEPTION AND PALLETISATION CENTRE OFFICIALLY OPENED
The La Croix Reception and Palletisation Centre was officially opened on Thursday February 15 2007 at La Croix.
The Palletisation Centre began construction October 2004 and was constructed at a cost of just over EC $2.2 Million.
The new facility is 32,610 square feet and was designed and built to handle a total of 400 tons of bananas per week from the Marriaqua Valley, Greggs and Lauders where a large percentage of certified banana growers are based. The building involved the construction of a steel framed, prefabricated structure built to Caribbean Earthquake standards.
The RAP centre at La Croix has a full array of washing bays so that on the days when bananas are not being processed, the centre will be used to handle other agricultural crops. This is to support the diversification initiatives taking place in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Financing for the project was done through the European Union Special Framework of Assistance (EUSFA), which will fund the construction of three Reception and Palletisation Centres in St. Vincent and the Grenadines also known as RAP CENTRES.
A small amount of equipment for inspecting, grading and palletisation of all agricultural products, especially bananas, is left to be procured and installed in the Centre.
The centre was constructed by Sibli Construction Company limited. The Reception and Palletisation centre at La Croix will be managed by WIBDECO.
