FOUR BILLS PASSED IN HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY

A total of four Bills were passed in the House of Assembly yesterday (Jan 30th).

These are the Public Sector Investment Loan Bill, 2007, Immigration (Restriction) (Amendment) Bill, 2007, Immigration (Caribbean Community Skilled Nationals (Amendment) Bill, 2007 and Customs (Control and Management) (Amendment) Bill, 2007.

Meanwhile five other Bills were sent to select committees. These include the Electronic Transactions Bill, 2007, Bankruptcy and Insolvency Bill, 2007, International Business Companies (Amendment and Consolidation) Bill, 2007, Information and Communication Technology Services Investment Incentives Bill, 2007, and Small Business Development Bill, 2007. These Bills had their first reading on Tuesday.

Two motions were also passed in the House of Assembly. The first is the Housing and Land Development Corporation (Designation) Order, 2007. It states that the Housing and Land Development Corporation Act, (Cap 70) Section 22 provides for the making of designation orders. Such orders shall provide for areas of land to be designated as development areas by reference to a plan, either with or without descriptive matter.

A resolution regarding the Post Office (Amendment) Regulations 2007 was also passed in the House of Assembly. This resolution was tabled by Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Dr. Ralph Gonsalves.

The regulations shall provide for the rates of postage and the terms and conditions and method of payment thereof; and for changes with respect to rental or leasing of private letter boxes provided by the corporation.

The next House of Assembly is scheduled for February.
