Change of Command in the RSVG Police Force
The Royal St.Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force is
now under the command of a new commissioner, Mr. Keith
Miller and a new Deputy Commissioner Mr. Bertie Pompey.
A farewell parade was held at the Grammar School Playing field on September 30th, 2005 to mark the change of
leadership and also to honour the dedication and hard work
of former Commissioner of Police, Mr.William Harry and
former Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. Cyril Doyle.
Making remarks at the official handing over ceremony,
Mr. Harry reminisced on his early years in the (RSVG)
Police force. He mused about entering the Police Headquarters one Saturday afternoon in 1969 with a small suitcase ready to embark on a sailing vessel 'Aloma Sea' to a
police centre in Barbados to begin his police training.
Although shedding tears on his first Christmas away from
home, Mr. Harry said he persevered and was successful in
his endeavours.
Mr. Keith Miller in his remarks stated that this signified the
fulfilment of a dream and the realisation of one of his many
goals. Miller stated that when he was enlisted as a Police
Constable on January 2nd, 1979, his ambitions were set on
becoming Commissioner of Police eventually. Miller also
said that he intends to make a crucial assessment of the
Royal St.Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force. He also
solicited the cooperation and assistance of every member
of the (RSVG) Police Force in order to fulfil his mandate.
Minister of National Security, Hon.Sir Vincent Beache
stated that it was the first time in the history of the Police
Force that there was a professional at the head of the
(RSVG) Police Force and a professional as Deputy Commissioner. He also urged young officers to value formal
education as it is one step in ensuring upward mobility
within the service.
Complying with the Durant Report on the restructuring
of the Police Force, Mr. Ronald Christopher and Mr. Lenroy
Brewster have been appointed as Assistant Commissioners
of Police. Brewster's appointment is in an acting capacity.
As former Commissioner of Police, Mr.William Harry
passed the baton to Mr. Keith Miller; he implored him to
be courageous and wished him God's blessing.
